    James swallows thickly, "... or.. or my friends here might... I don't want that to happen! I..I'll start practicing more. I promise!" James looks honestly rather scared by the thought so he's being honest. Then again, James and subterfuge really do not go together.

    James sighs, "I'll go practice right now if you want. Or maybe... You can even show me something neat and fun instead? OH! That reminds me!" Then his face fell, looking really upset and perhaps even more scared, "I'm gonna get turned into a rat.... But... I...er... I lost the spellbook... I was reading in the back yard... and I had to go answer the phone. Dad told me it was for me, but when I got to it, no one was there and then...when I went back to find it... I..I couldn't..."

    James looks at Salem rather frightened with almost tears in his eyes... and they're not of the crocodile variety. He's sincere. Which means most likely the person who has the books...

    Richard smiles, "Alright. I would like to learn something fun. Especially from you."

      Salem got a rather upset look on his muzzle. "Jonas... guard your grandson; I'm going after that spell book. And if Mr. Talbot has it... I may change him into something for the rest of his life. I think all of Coopersville would cheer if he suddenly fell into a pool of Toonium... like you did, Jonas." And he vanished.

      Jonas sighed. "Your father is always trying to stick his nose into your business, James. I am sure he knows by now you were reading a spell book even if he could never use magic himself before. And that might make him even more determined to put that key together." He then fuzzled James' head hair. "So you think you might like to be a rat, do you? I know some sexy ones..."

      ~~~~~
      Visa takes Richard into the Veil and begins teaching him how to access Veil from Earth and back because that is one of the easiest things there is to learn. Even the were-rabbit boy could do it. It was just damned easy. "Now remember... when crossing from Earth to Veil, always make sure no Norms are watching you do this. Otherwise, that Alpha guardian who visited your father the first day will be having words with you. Ready to try this?"
        James shakes his head, "No.. I.. I don't wanna be a rat... Or get eaten by my friends. They'd be REALLY upset if they found out." Figures, he's actually more concerned over how THEY'D feel. He looks down a sighs, "I just seem to always to screw up... I'm sorry I wasn't practicing enough, Grandpa." He looks up then hugs Jonas, "You know, I really miss you when you're not around."
        After a few minutes, James says, "Does everyone hate my Dad that much that they'd be happy if he was gone?"
        ~~~~~

        Richard nods, "I think I get it... It's kinda weird, I kinda...remember something like this... but I never heard of it before. Is that normal?"

          Salem then reappeared with the spell book. "Your father is off the hook this time. It was sitting in your mom's sewing room with an icky pink pet collar sitting on top of it."

          Jonas replied to James' question, "They don't hate him, James... they are just upset that he is playing with powers that should not be monkeyed with. He might end up as a monkey himself if he doesn't stop and see what he is doing. Worse, he is using you to get more information on the things he wants to know. This is why he has permitted you to spend more and more time in Coopersville. He figures the people would be more inclined to give you the information he wants than to give it to him himself. And that is why he has been purposely distracting you each and every time. Those two momless cats he brought in... I did some checking and found out that he 'purchased' those brothers from... get this... a traveling circus who was about to lose everything. He waved money in their face to buy those cats specifically for you so you would be too distracted to notice what he was actually doing. Worse, he never even told your mom he was doing it. She is actually attending classes in the Quad Counties. He is often traveling the world without her."

          Salem sighed. "Then he probably planted the spell book in the sewing room after..." he snickers. "...trying to read it and failing. It takes someone who can see magical writing to even read the glyphs in the spell book. I'll bet he was mad when he couldn't read this book."

          ~~~~~
          Visa nodded his head. "It is very normal, Richard. Once you learn how to do this, you won't even have to summon any power to make the crossing; you'll just do it without a second though. It will be like opening your closet door and seeing another bedroom on the other side."
            James tilts his head, "It does...?" He looks thoughtful, rubbing his forehead, "Maybe this is important... then. I'm not sure...A few nights ago, when I was taking care of some very....underfed and...hurt looking fox kits, he brought me something with lots of glyphs on it. He said he found it somewhere and wanted to show me. He described one of the runes and let me look at it and told me he'd like me to describe what I saw, so he could 'compare his notes' on them to what I saw... He described the one thingie on it right... and it did SORTA, kinda look like the spell book writing only... a LOOOOOOOOOT older and I couldn't read but a little of it... I dunno. I couldn't read much of it myself. But I think the one word I did make out was Sham hall? Shambler? Something like that." He wrinkles his brow as he tries to think, "No... Shambhala? I don't know I really can't remember."
            He looks at Jonas to see if he was doing the right thing, "I...I didn't think it was that important at the time but... does that ... help?"
            ~~~~~

            Richard smiles and nods, "Alright. I'll try it!" Only when he tries it on his own... He disappears from the kitsune's sight all together... And ends up standing no in the Veil... but in the actual Spirit Realm rather than the hidden 'Veil' area. A natural Druidic ability, the place where they can freely converse with the natural spirits... and both there are ALOT of them around here! He's...blinking...and staring...and wondering where the heck he is!

              Salem hummed. "I think that qualifies as a yes. I'll go tell WWNN and the Guardian what you just learned. They will want to know." And he vanished again.

              Jonas said, "Now that he is gone, let us help you practice some of this magic you need to be practicing with. Come, we'll go over to Talbot-Veil Compound for this." And he opened the magic door for James to step through.

              ~~~~~
              Visa sighed with a smile as he mentally said to Mr. Avalin, "Mr. Avalin sir... I was trying to teach Richard how to pass between Earth and Veil and he never arrived in either location. Do you happen to know where he might have poofed to?"
                Mr. Avalin actually seems RATHER amused by that... And mentions that he probably accidentally was seeing just what the 'REAL' Coopersville looked like... From the Spirit Realm. And asks if you need help retrieving him.
                ~~~~~

                James nods a little, "Okay, Grandpa..."

                  Visa chuckled saying that Mr. Avalin might want to do that since Visa himself cannot reach the Spirit Realm at all and Richard might be feeling afraid being in there all by himself.

                  ~~~~~
                  At the Veil side of Talbot Compound...
                  James got to see what all of his animal friends really REALLY looked like as Jonas prepared James for his magical lessons.
                  Lunar waved a paw hand at James from where he was seated near an opening leading into the alpha's quarters. He didn't dare go in since Crescent was in the middle of what the young werewolf teenager might call another boring lesson.
                    Mr. Avalin didn't know if devi/kitsune powers extended to the spiritual or not but he concedes. And a few minutes later, a shaking, unnerved Richard is delivered back to the Veil where Visa is. Richard is very... shakey but he hugs Visa TIGHTLY.
                    ~~~~~

                    James wows... He didn't get to see that before, though he had been in the veil before. "This is pretty neat!!!" He waved back at Lunar and mouths to him, 'You look sexy like that'. Then grins to Jonas, "I like this side of the place... I never go to explore this place like this..." He looks toward the window like he was contemplating escaping out of the window.

                      Visa hugged him back. "You transported yourself to the Druidic Spirit Realm, Richard. How was it?"

                      ~~~~~
                      Jonas said, "Practicing your spells first, then you can explore all of Talbot Veil that you like. You said you would practice..."
                        James sighs and nods, "Yessir... sorry..." He goes back over to Jonas and starts his lessons... Though he is distracted slightly. And not surprisingly... The magical buildup is QUITE noticable when several spells cause some very ... funny results. Well funny to James. Jonas sporting a rainbow color pelt of fur with giant pink ribbons isn't exactly going to endear his grandson to him. Though thankfully, James does manage to help him with the cleanup afterwards. But this is exactly why the build up is so dangerous.
                        During the practice though, Jonas starts to notice what Salem did. His power level is far higher than it has any reason being at his level but the most noticable thing is that over the course of the practice sessions, James' hair starts slowly changing colors... natural coloration, not some spell by production. From the normal humany, mousy brown to a silvery white. On top of this, it remains unnaturally...thick and dense. Movie stars would die to have hair that thick and luxurious. Jonas' feline nose though picks up the faint scent of something feline from the hair... but that's all.
                        ~~~~~

                        Richard blushes, "It ... It was scarey! All the trees...were talking..and moving...and everything was....all talking and it was so noisy and scarey... And some of them were really angery!"

                          Jonas doesn't mention what he suspects since distraction could make the spell lessons worse with far worse circumstances. "James... the reason it is so important to practice spells when you have a power build up like yours is for this reason: for each spell rank you cast, it drains off the build up energy by that amount. But since yours has been building up so fast like this, you need to be casting multiple spells per hour simply to dampen the build up before it explodes and you transform into something you don't want to become. Since you mentioned Rats, you could become one during the explosion. And then you might be stuck for a while without a way to get back to normal. This is why you should always cast spells to drain off the excess build up of inner power. Unchecked... and you might end up colored as pink as Pinky McCollarton."

                          ~~~~~
                          Visa nodded. "I had your father help get you back here this time. One moment..." And he mentally sent the Spirit Realm report that Richard gave about the trees being angry to Mr. Avalin since he is the local chief druid who should be aware of their anger. "There, I let your father know that the trees were upset in the Spirit Realm. He will check into it. Are you ready to try Veil crossing again, or would you rather I show you how its done so you can see for yourself how it works?"
                            Mr. Avalin replies he was looking to it after bringing Richard back but thanks him for letting him know.
                            Richard nods, "I..i'd like to see it once first, maybe that'll help?"
                            James nods a little, "I'll try to make sure I practice more ... EEP NO!! NONONONONONONONO!!! NO PINKY MCCOLLARTON! That's okay! I'll study! I'll study... um..um...100 times harder!"
                              Visa smiled. "For most of us, it isn't casting a spell, Richard. Instead... think of it as reaching your hand behind part of a curtain," and he does that motion in mid air in front of himself and Richard. "like this, and then simply pert the curtain open a bit and slowly step through. Later on when you're better at this, you won't have to do it slow; Crescent does it so fast it is like lightning. But his dad still doesn't like it when his son does it. Wolves... what can I say?" And he escorted Richard through the opening allowing Richard to feel with his hand what the veil/curtain feels like so he will know what to do next time. And with that, they were on the other side.
                              "Simple, yes?"
                              ~~~~~

                              "You better practice, James," Jonas said with a smile. "or else I'll have to bring in Master Splinter to help you learn about Rats." He then winked. "Now for some fun spells... I am going to teach you a rank one spell called Stealth. Remember how you used to try to be all sneaky-sneaky-sneaky-sneak in the old days? Well this spell actually makes it possible. Interested?"

                                Richard shivers a little as they pass through but nods, "Y..yeah it's... Weird. It's not like the stepping sideways thing I did last time... It's...easier I think...Still feels...weird though. Like I'm not...walking right." Which makes sense. Currently he isn't.

                                Richard grins, "Wow it's neat on this side though!"

                                ~~~~~
                                James nods, "I will. Ooo! Yes please!!! Then I can sneaky-sneak...sneaky-sneak..." and he does the sneaky motions while saying it...
